Using critical ethnographic methods, we seek to make visible the behind-the-scenes work required to effectively educate current, and future, physicians across the medical education continuum.

We are especially interested in the implicit values, norms, and assumptions that shape medical education and, in turn, professional identities and clinical practice.

Health Professions Education

We investigate death education, equity and inclusion, and sacred tenets like science, competence, and professionalism.

Simulation

We explore how simulated learning shapes the teaching and learning of future, and present, physicians.

Virtual Learning

We study how distance learning technologies shape how medical education is designed, delivered, and experienced.
